Battle of Rimnik

Key events of the war were expected in Izmail area. Turks demonstratively moved their large forces there. Taken in by that trick, the commander-in-chief Potyomkin concentrated a strong Russian army there. It was all Turks were waiting for. Their army of 100 thousand men under command of Yusuf Pasha (Yusuf means brilliant) was preparing to defeat Austrians to get their hands on Russians afterwards. Austrian forces were commanded by prince Coburg. On getting scout reports about Turks going to advance their 100 thousand against his 18 thousand, the prince hurriedly dispatched a courier to General Suvorov begging for help. A 7 thousand strong division of the Russian army General hurried to aid the ally.

Turkish losses made up 10 thousand killed. Allies lost one thousand killed and wounded. In a couple of days Yusuf Pasha gathered the rest of his, once 100 thousand strong army. He counted only 15 thousand men.
